A trip to Pittsburgh would not be complete for any Foodie without a visit to Primanti Brothers for one of their famous sandwiches.  And since, last December, I was visiting Pittsburgh for the first time in over 10 years, I needed to stop there immediately!

Now, friends, you can get just about any standards of bar food their and I’m sure they are all delicious.  But, I was their for the sandwiches!  These aren’t just any sandwiches, these are monuments to those with hearty appetites!  Where else can you get a massive sandwich piled high with your choice of meat topped with crispy French Fries?!!

Of course, I wanted to have the most authentic experience as possible.  I mean, I wanted to channel my blue collar roots and sit on the same benches inside the same walls as those steel mill workers did many generations before me.  Therefore,  I decided to visit the original location in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.

Sure enough, it did not disappoint!  As you walk in you immediately know you are in Steeler Country, not that you would have forgotten given your close proximity to Downtown (or as the locals say, Dahntahn).   It has the feel of a neighborhood pub with the paneling on the walls with Steelers Memorabilia and other local fascinations hanging on the walls along with sounds of Classic Rock playing on the sound system.

I sat down at the Bar and ordered my sandwich:  A Sweet Italian Sausage Sandwich with an Iron City Beer (Of Course!) to wash it down with.    I wanted everything about the experience to be as authentic as possible.

Lot of Choices!

More items to chose from!

Now the moment had arrived.  Lunch was served!  The waitress brought out the sandwich I had ordered and it was everything I had heard about.

Time to eat!!

The sandwich come with your choice of meat (in my case, Sweet Italian Sausage) and also served up with tomatoes and slaw on freshly baked Italian Bread.  As mentioned earlier, one thing that is also a unique feature is that they put freshly cut French Fries inside of your sandwich.  There’s plenty of Heinz Ketchup on hand to douse your fries in.  It definitely did not disappoint!

Folks, these sandwiches were definitely worth the price of admission.  Everything about it was excellent and one definitely will not leave hungry!  If you happen to be in the Pittsburgh Area, stop on in one of their locations.  You never sausage a sandwich like the ones at Primanti Brothers!!
